Borax (Disodium Tetraborate Decahydrate) has been traditionally used to thicken home made lotions and creams although it is no longer used commercially for this purpose. A natural herbicide/insecticide, Borax is esperiencing a bit of a revival as a natural cleaning agent, and as a booster for laundry and pre wash soaking.Borax is also a key ingredient in fun science led recipes such as putty, slime and bouncy ball making where it is used in solution. Please remember that Borax is a toxic product (an excellent insecticide and herbicide) and should be kept away from children and safely stored in a clearly marked container. We pride ourselves on the quality of our Citric Acid - it is key to everything that we do. After many many trials in our early days and driving more than one supplier to distraction we arrived at the conclusion that the best all round grade of Citric for bath bomb making was an extemely fine granular grade.. teeny weeny grains smaller than anything in your store cupboard.. but with just enough of a grain to allow you to make consistently good bath bombs time and again. Buy this with confidence; we've taken the trial and error out of the equation for you! And if you havent used this before - yes this is the Citric that you need to make smooth looking and feeling really gorgeous bath bombs, it is food grade, it is pure, and it can be used for home cleaning and descaling. Kettles and steam sterilisers can be descaled without the use of commercial chemicals and at a fraction of the cost.
Cornflour or Corn Starch as it is also known, is an ingredient widely used in food production (as are many of our ingredients) as well as providing bulk and texture for many bath & beauty products. Within your basic bath bomb recipe - whether that is an oil rich or Witch Hazel recipe, Cornflour will provide smoothness/ improve appearance and act as an aid to the mixing process by cutting down on the risk of fizzing in the bowl. Use in a ratio of around one part cornflour to 5-10 parts Sodium Bicarbonate. For example 50 - 100g Cornflour with 500g Bicarbonate of Soda along with around 250g of Citric Acid. There are no hard and fast rules as to just how much you have to use - just remember that any additive aside from the main ingredients in a bath bomb will slow the reaction between the bicarb and citric therefore the more you use the calmer the fizz.
Epsom Salts, (or Magnesium Sulphate) is a perfect addition to your bath bombs to enhance your bathing experience, or for use on their own as a muscle relaxant & detoxifying agent within your bath routine. Fine Grade Sodium Bicarbonate - or Bicarb for short. Regular deliveries ensure the freshest product; years of bath bomb making experience guarantees that you will receive the best grade to ensure the finest bath bombs will be yours.
